Moons of Saturn

Saturn has 146 known natural satellites.

About Saturn's Moon System

Saturn has 146 confirmed moons, the most of any planet in our solar system. Its moon system spans an extraordinary range of sizes and characteristics. Titan, the largest, is bigger than the planet Mercury and is the only moon in the solar system with a dense atmosphere -- a thick nitrogen-rich envelope with methane clouds and hydrocarbon lakes on its surface. Enceladus, though only 500 km in diameter, has become one of the most intriguing objects in the search for life due to its geysers of water ice erupting from a subsurface ocean through fractures near the south pole. The Cassini mission revealed that this ocean likely contains the chemical ingredients necessary for life. Saturn's many smaller moons interact gravitationally with its ring system, acting as shepherd moons that shape ring edges.
