FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Cosmos Observatory.

What is Cosmos Observatory?

Cosmos Observatory is a free, open-source platform that aggregates data from NASA and other space agencies to provide a comprehensive space exploration experience. We offer real-time ISS tracking, Mars rover imagery, asteroid monitoring, APOD archives, and much more.

Is the data on this site accurate and up-to-date?

We source all our data directly from official NASA APIs and other reputable space data providers. Data is refreshed automatically at regular intervals, ranging from every 10 seconds for ISS position to daily for APOD. While we strive for accuracy, we recommend cross-referencing with official NASA sources for mission-critical information.

Is Cosmos Observatory free to use?

Yes, Cosmos Observatory is completely free to use. All NASA data is publicly available, and we believe space education should be accessible to everyone. We do not charge for any features or content.

Can I use images and data from this site?

Most NASA imagery is in the public domain and can be used freely with appropriate credit to NASA. However, some APOD images are copyrighted by the individual photographers. Always check the copyright notice on each image before reuse. Our site content and code are subject to our Terms of Service.

How often is the data updated?

Update frequencies vary by data source: ISS position updates every 10 seconds, asteroid data every 15 minutes, Mars rover photos every 30 minutes, APOD daily, and solar system data every 24 hours. All data is cached to ensure fast loading and to respect API rate limits.

Do you have a mobile app?

Currently, Cosmos Observatory is a web application optimized for both desktop and mobile browsers. We do not have a native mobile app at this time, but our responsive design ensures a great experience on any device.

How can I report a bug or suggest a feature?

We welcome feedback! You can report bugs or suggest features through our Contact page, or by opening an issue on our GitHub repository. We actively review all submissions and prioritize based on community interest.

What technologies power this site?

Cosmos Observatory is built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. We use Three.js for 3D visualizations, Leaflet for maps, and Recharts for data visualization. The site is deployed on Vercel for optimal performance.
