Young (near center of photo), STS-1 commander, egresses the space shuttle Columbia upon the completion of checklist activities following the successful landing of the spacecraft used on STS-1 space mission. George W.S. Abbey, director of flight operations at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), greets him at the bottom of the steps. Astronaut Robert L. Crippen, STS-1 pilot, is still inside Columbia.
