Earth observations taken during STS-2 mission
STS002-13-210 (12-14 Nov. 1981) --- Photograph of Algeria's Tifernine dunes taken with a hand-held camera through the ceiling windows of the space shuttle Columbia during STS-2. The area is about 800 miles south, southeast of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. The dunes are in excess of 1,000 feet in height and are trapped in an enclosure in the Tassili Najjer Mountains.
