MS. STILSON: You're probably wondering what it's really like to fly in space. And there's no one better to ask than a NASA astronaut. So it's my pleasure to introduce Astronaut Kay Hire. Kay, it's great to have us here with you. Thanks for joining us. MS. HIRE: Thank you. MS. STILSON: Kay, you flew on STS-90 and you've also served as a Cape Crusader and an Astronaut Support Person working closely with flight crews. Tell us what it's like, as an astronaut, to go through these last three days before liftoff. MS. HIRE: It's really an exciting time. It's very much like a sports team that has been training, preparing for years and you have all your trainers and your family and coaches and everybody's behind you and supporting you. And it's suddenly, finally time to go and compete, the thing that you've been preparing for, for years. And that's the way this crew is, and I know that's the way we were back on my mission. That we're very excited and ready to just go do the thing that we've been training for, for so long.
