On the Nation's birthday, Space Shuttle Discovery pierced the clear blue Florida sky, carrying its crew of seven on mission STS-121 to the International Space Station. This is the first shuttle to ever lift off on the July 4 holiday, providing a view more spectacular that any fireworks display.
