NASA proudly announced its 2004 astronaut class at a Space Day celebration May 6. The ceremony took place at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. Of the 11 astronauts selected, two are pilots, and nine are mission specialists -- three of whom are also educators. U.S. Senator and American space legend John Glenn spoke to the crowd of students gathered at the event. 'I'm envious of the young people who are just coming into the space program now, for the opportunities that they have.' Later in the day, the nation's newest astronauts took part in the fourth Earth Crew Webcast. Earth Crew's students, teachers and others will support the new Educator Astronauts as they and their new classmates embark on their space adventure.
