Drone footage of NASA astronauts Kate Rubins and Andre Douglas during nighttime simulated moonwalks in the Arizona desert. The Joint Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility Program Test Team (JETT) is a specialized group that develops, integrates, and executes human-in-the-loop tests and analog missions that enable the agency's Artemis campaign. JETT 5 is the fifth field test in the JETT test series and was conducted in the San Francisco Volcanic Field near Flagstaff, Arizona in May of 2024. The test evaluated gaps and challenges associated with lunar South Pole operations, including data collection and communications between the flight control team and science team in Houston for rapid decision-making protocols. JETT is led out of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The group is sponsored by Johnson’s Extravehicular Activity & Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP) in collaboration with the Science Mission Directorate (SMD).
