International Space Station 20th Anniversary Panel: The International Space Station and Beyond The International Space Station is a stepping stone and demonstration testbed that is helping pave the way for NASA’s lunar exploration plans under the Artemis program, where NASA will land the first woman and next man on the Moon and establish a sustainable presence. The technologies and capabilities that we test on the space station allow us to learn what works and what we can improve as we explore deeper into the solar system. In recognition of the 20th anniversary of continuous human presence aboard the International Space Station, listen as NASA Public Affairs Officer Leah Cheshier sits down with some of the women who are the agency’s leading subject matter experts on the habitation system technologies, environmental control and life support systems, and countermeasures of risks associated with spaceflight needed for successful deep-space missions. Joining the conversation are Robyn Gatens – Acting Director of the International Space Station and System Capability Leader for Environmental Control and Life Support Systems, Jennifer Fogarty – Chief Scientist for the NASA Human Research Program, and Laura Shaw – International Space Station Program Lead for Exploration Life Support Systems.
