NASA hosted a news conference at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston on Jan. 6 to discuss an upcoming series of spacewalks occurring Jan. 8 and Jan. 15 by astronauts to complete work outside the International Space Station. The first spacewalk, on Jan. 8 will be conducted by NASA astronauts Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman and will consist of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays (IROSA) 2A power channel preparation work and swabbing the outside of the space station for microorganisms. The second spacewalk on Jan. 15 will include tasks to replace a high-definition camera, install a new navigational aid for visiting spacecraft, and relocate an early ammonia servicer jumper. The spacewalkers for the second spacewalk will be named after the first spacewalk is complete. Previewing the upcoming spacewalk was Bill Spetch, operations integration manager for the International Space Station program as well as flight directors Diana Trujillo and Heidi Brewer.
