In Clayton Valley, Nevada, lithium has been produced since 1966. Currently it is produced by pumping lithium-rich brine to the surface to evaporate, or processed through direct lithium extraction. About 5,000 metric tons of lithium carbonate are produced annually at Nevada's only lithium-producing site. In the future, newly discovered deposits will produce more lithium than any other state.
