This animation depicts Jupiter's atmospheric circulation cells (airflow circulation cells that flow in the north-south, up-down plane) beneath the clouds. The Ferrel-like circulation cells governing the midlatitudes (blue) are uniform in the zonal direction. The white arrows in the east-west direction (the current view is from east looking west), each bisecting a cell, represent the alternating jet streams. The atmospheric circulation pattern sheds light on the unseen flow structure beneath Jupiter's clouds and greatly impacts our understanding of the Jovian atmosphere.
