Acidalia Colles - False Color

This VIS image shows part of Acidalia Colles. The term colles means hill. Dark blue tones in this band configuration typically identify basaltic sands. This "blue" material is found on the plains, but also on some of the hill faces. Acidalia Colles in located in central Acidalia Planitia. The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image.
