In the Kennedy Space Center’s Press Site auditorium, members of the media participate in a mission briefing on the Geostationary Operations Environmental Satellite (GOES-U). The briefing participants from the left are Derrol Nail, NASA Communications; Ken Graham, director, NOAA’s National Weather Service; Dan Lindsey, Ph.D., chief scientist, GOES-R Program, NOAA; Charles Webb, deputy director, Joint Agency Satellite Division, NASA; Elsayed Talaat, Ph.D., director, NOAA’s Office of Space Weather Observations; and Lt. Cmdr. Chris Wood, NOAA Hurricane Hunter pilot. The GOES-R Series satellites are planned to operate into the 2030s. GOES-R series satellites are on the lookout 24/7 providing scientists and meteorologists the information they need to provide more accurate and timely weather forecasts and better understanding of long-term climate conditions.
