Simulation #2 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for the launch of Artemis I, the first test flight of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System, took place on February 3, 2020. NASA’s first female Launch Director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson is leading a team of nearly 100 engineers for the Artemis program that will send the first woman and next man to the Moon. The team went through a series of simulated challenges as well as a final countdown procedure in Firing Room 1 of the Launch Control Center. There are 10 planned sims for the terminal count that involve Orion, the Space Launch System and the ground systems in a launch configuration. These simulations are a learning environment where planners introduce issues that will give the team the experience of launch day operations.
